Bolo is left without answers: the last bullet in Albacete

Huesca’s triumph at the Tartiere showed a repeated idea and a new one. The first, the routine, Oviedo crashed again in his field. There are six games played and one win. An unsustainable figure for any team. The novelty came at the press conference. Jon Pérez Bolo, affected by the umpteenth stumble, criticized his players, without being able to explain why, in his opinion, they had been unable to maintain the script of what he considered a good game after the rival’s first slap. He did not point out proper names, but put some examples on a plate. “If we steal and go backwards…”, he complained about the loss of Montoro, which gave Valentín the option of leaving Pomares and centering so that Carrillo could execute Oviedo. The technician, exhausted all the possible alternatives, runs out of solutions.

The eternal search for a path is slowly consuming itself without Oviedo finding light. It’s already 7 weeks without winning. The blue team is the second worst Second team in the last month, only surpassed by Lugo. The crisis is pressing and the feeling at the moment is that Bolo is only on the bench for a wink in the calendar.

The week with the most activity, three games in six weeks, began when the coach was very close to exhausting his credit. A draw with a remarkable second half in Zaragoza and another defeat at the Tartiere seem more than enough reasons to leave the coach without arguments in his continuity. But Oviedo plays again tomorrow, this time in Albacete (9:00 p.m.), and it doesn’t seem like the most opportune moment for a drastic change.

In the blue club the situation of the team worries. The few voices that supported the coach have been fading over the weeks. Bolo has run out of defenders as the winless dynamic has been increasing. Football is about the results, and those of Bolo have been insufficient for a long time.

The words of the coach after the last defeat also surprised the entity. The Basque, who had been characterized by rather neutral interventions before the press, without influencing football issues, spoke of the error of his pupils when they received a goal that was “unbecoming of this category”. The coach stressed the psychological aspect of the game (he spoke of “blocking, anxiety and nervousness”) but did not hesitate to point out the mistakes of his players in an exercise that had not been seen until then.

Bolo’s credit has been consumed at the same speed that he was wasting bullets on tactical changes. A few weeks ago, when the coach was looking for a way out of a bad game with different tactical systems, there were those who defended his worth based on tactical richness. Now there is talk of disorder and confusion among the players, who in just 180 minutes have formed a system with three central defenders, in a 4-2-3-1 and in the 4-4-2 with which the team finished the duel against Huesca.

Carlos Belmonte emerges as the last chance for the coach. Or perhaps not even that, since there are people in the club who advocate a change regardless of what happens tomorrow against Albacete.

In any case, the opinions, including that of the sports director, Tito Blanco, remain in the background before the decision of the maximum shareholder. It will be Jesús Martínez, informed from Mexico of the day-to-day of the entity and in direct contact with Martín Peláez, blue president, who will decide what happens in the future of the bench. Pachuca has always been characterized by taking sides in most decisions in the sports field and, although it takes into account the opinion of the sports management, it holds the monopoly of the last decision.

Poor individual performance. The main responsibility is the coach, football law, but the disappointment in the club with some players is also important. Hardly any of the new ones have performed as expected over the summer. The sum of “godfathers” in the incorporations (the Mexicans from Pachuca, Enrich de Bolo or los Pomares or Montoro de Tito) are not up to the task and the climate of instability does not help some key players last year, Costas, Viti o Cane to cite an example of each line, reach their optimum level. The sum of factors create a climate of instability in which Bolo maintains the balance supported by the tightness of the calendar. But Albacete is the last chance to rectify the course.
