A film team accompanied the professional athlete for a documentary in his last season with Ratiopharm Ulm. On Wednesday evening, his ex-teammates will play at home against Göttingen.
“There’s a chance I’ll be unemployed in a few hours,” says Per Günther just moments before the end of his long career as a professional basketball player. It’s the third game of the playoffs Ulm plays against Ludwigsburg – loses and is eliminated. But instead of sticking your head in the sand, the hall is raging: “We want to see Günther,” the fans shout. Because now it’s clear: After a total of 14 years for the same club, this game will be Per Günther’s last major appearance. It is the end for a basketball legend from Ulm, for the fans’ favourite, for one of the faces of the German basketball scene. Now he’s playing the lead again. Not on the field, but in the approximately 80-minute documentary “Per”.
