Basketball: Bayern Munich messes up the Euroleague start

Nfter the successful start in the Bundesliga, the basketball pros from Bayern Munich had to put up with a severe setback at the start of the Euroleague. The team coached by Andrea Trinchieri lost 62:74 (34:40) in their own hall against the Turkish champions Fenerbahçe Istanbul.

After a 7-0 start, last year’s quarter-finalist was permanently behind. Four of the first five attacks ended in losing the ball, after six minutes the Munich team had only scored six points. But the bench players brought Bayern back. The guests from Istanbul had advantages near the basket, gained up to 13 points in the second quarter and were 40:34 ahead at the break.

Othello Hunter (18 points) and Nick Weiler-Babb (12) brought Bayern closer to 44:48 in the third quarter, but Fenerbahçe then pulled away again. Munich remained without points for more than four minutes. The guests continued to control the game in the final section, three minutes before the end of the game they were 20 points ahead.

The German cup winner and champion Alba Berlin will start the Euroleague on Friday (8 p.m. live on Magentasport) against the Serbian record champions Partizan Belgrade.
