Bundesliga relegated Arminia Bielefeld remains bottom of the table after the 11th matchday of the second Bundesliga. The East Westphalia suffered a deserved 1:2 (0:1) home defeat against Karlsruher SC on Friday and are the only team with just eight points.
After a decent start, under the new coach Daniel Scherning, three of the last four games have now been lost. In addition, defender Frederik Jäkel had to be replaced before the break after a collision with teammate Oliver Hüsing with suspected concussion.
The KSC, on the other hand, can now orient itself upwards with 17 points. Fabian Schleusener secured the deserved half-time lead for Baden (43′). After the break, Arminia got a little stronger and were quickly rewarded with an equalizer from Janni Serra (53′).
But almost as a countermove, Marvin Wanitzek gave Karlsruhe the lead again with a deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area – it was the winning goal. The Bielefeld spectators said goodbye to their team with a loud whistling concert.
Fürth crisis worsens
Greuther Fürth’s sports director Rachid Azzouzi took his team to court after the missed liberation. “That was bad. Too scared. Not enough courage,” the Moroccan attested to the Franconians after the 2: 2 (1: 1) on Friday evening at SSV Jahn Regensburg. “Fear paralyzes. We lose the ball far too quickly,” Azzouzi continued to criticize after Fürth conceded at least one goal on the eleventh matchday.
Damian Michalski (34′) and Simon Asta (74′) scored for the game association in front of 10,716 spectators. Kaan Caliskaner (42nd/62nd) provided the interim lead for Regensburg. In the end, the point is not enough for both teams. In Fürth in particular, the crisis is getting worse and coach Marc Schneider is coming under increasing pressure after the next winless game away from home.
Even the first professional goal from Fürth’s Asta couldn’t brighten the mood in the Franconian ranks. “I’m already happy about my first goal, but I don’t understand why we only played a draw again today,” said the Kleeblatt defender.
In the end, the Bundesliga relegated team had to be happy to go home with a point. Because the hosts were clearly the better team over the 90 minutes and were much closer to victory.
A header from Regensburg defender Scott Kennedy (88th) landed just wide of the post. Shortly thereafter, Benedikt Saller flicked the ball from 14 meters to the far corner – his own man straddled in between.
“We deserved more than one point. At the moment there’s more frustration,” reported Regensburg’s two-time goalscorer Caliskaner. After all, after seven winless league games in a row, Jahn was able to celebrate a goal again.
