Alpine skiing: The women’s giant in Sölden canceled due to weather conditions

The world of alpine skiing had an appointment this Saturday morning in Sölden, Austria for the resumption of the season. White sport lovers will still have to wait a few hours for the official launch of the 2022-2023 season. Due to bad weather conditions, the women’s giant, which was to take place this Saturday at 10 a.m., has been cancelled. The rain that fell on the Tyrolean resort left the organizers with no other choice.

Due to the current weather conditions and forecasts, the jury and the local organizing committee have decided to cancel the women’s giant of the day“, write the organizers in a press release.

The men’s giant to start the season?

Free skiing, official training, had already been canceled on Friday due to a strong wind which prevented the ski lifts from operating. The last cancellation in Sölden, which has opened the alpine ski season for more than 20 years at the end of October, dates back to 2018 when the men’s race could not start.

The men’s circuit must always start on Sunday with a giant (first round at 8 a.m., second round at 11 a.m.).
