Alcántara, the best pitcher in the National

He was picked in a Baseball America publication. Vladimir Jr. and Clase also received awards

When it comes to selecting the most outstanding in the Major Leagues, the Dominican presence is rarely left out.

By the end of August, the publication Baseball America held its annual installment called “The Best Tools” (Best Tools) and several Dominicans finished in first place in different categories.

Ballots are handed out each year for leaders, coaches, scouts and office staff to vote to make this selection.

In the box of the best pitcher in the National League, the chosen one was Sandy Alcántara, of the Marlins. The right-hander, a leading candidate for the National League Cy Young, finished his regular season with a 14-9 record, a 2.8 ERA, 207 strikeouts in 228 2/3 innings, a 0.98 WHIP and an 8.1 WAR. . That is part of the statistical summary that speaks of a campaign lady. The native of Azua also received the recognition for the best slider pitch

In the American League, the credit went to veteran Justin Verlander of Houston, and the inside lane for the Cy Young alike.

Guerrero Jr.’s defense

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was selected the best defensive first baseman in the AL. Toronto’s first baseman is well positioned to at least be a Gold Glove finalist.

At the start of yesterday’s session, he had participated in 1,111 innings, fourth in the AL, and had four runs saved per defense (DRS for its acronym in English), the most among players at his position.

Similarly, Vladimir, by the end of August, was ranked first in the sabermetric index (SDI) which weighs heavily in defensive valuations. This ranking will be updated at the end of the campaign.

Cleveland closer Emmanuel Clase took first place as the best reliever in the AL. In the National, Josh Hader, now from San Diego, was the winner.

Clase, a native of Río San Juan, compiles a campaign of pure dominance: he has 41 saves in 45 opportunities. He has 75 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings with just 10 strikeouts.

It has been one of the important pieces of the pitching of the squad that won the Central Division of the smallest of the circuits, something that was not expected. With his slicer and slider, Emmanuel has set the class for him.

Machado, the number one arm of the painting

Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres was selected as the best arm in the infield, according to this installment of Baseball America. Likewise, Víctor Robles, of the Nationals, was first as the best ball player in the National League. His former teammate, Juan Soto, who is now with Machado in the Padres, was credited with having the best knowledge of the strike zone. He is the Major League leading walker with a total of 135 in 521 games.
