With four athletes, the police sports club (PSV) Duisburg took part in the International Bayer Judo Cup in the athletics hall of TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. More than 200 judoka from Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania and numerous federal states competed in the age groups U17 and U20.

Ali Guliyev, most recently second at the state tournament in Lünen, started in the weight class up to 55 kilograms (U17). First, he suffered a full-time Wazaari loss to Belgian Jacobs Warre. In the consolation round, however, the 14-year-old left nothing to chance and defeated Alexander Lobanov from MTV Köln and Artur Friesen from PSV Bochum ahead of time, as well as Dutchman Jimmy Schoormans with a Wazaari rating in the fight for bronze.
The course of the fight was similar for Lucian Gumny in the class up to 60 kilograms (U20). The 17-year-old PSV fighter had to admit defeat against Fuat Apti from Antwerp. In the consolation round, he secured the bronze medal with early victories using strangulation techniques against Eray Kirat from JJJC Yamanashi Porz and Till Scheida from JC Wermelskirchen.
The strongest competition that day was waiting for Andrii Horovenko with 27 participants in the class up to 60 kilograms (U17). The 14-year-old defeated Rens Loohuis from the Netherlands at the start, but then had to admit defeat to Belgian Quinten Declercq. In the consolation round he was able to win three more fights, but in the end he had to settle for seventh place in a very strong field. Stuart Jakobs also took seventh place in the class up to 73 kilograms (U17), winning two fights. PSV trainer Erik Gruhn was very satisfied with the result of two third and two seventh places.
