A total of four countries failed to qualify for the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup despite having carved out a big victory in the Champions League 2023 Asian U-17 Cup Qualification.
The Indonesian U-17 national team is included in the list of teams that can win at least six goals but do not qualify for the finals. Bima Sakti’s squad managed to carve out a landslide victory 14-0 over Guam, which is the weakest team in Group B.
It’s just that the victory over Guam is meaningless. This is because the result against Guam is not included in the calculations of the teams competing for the best six runners-up positions to qualify for the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup.
Indonesia’s victory against Guam and also Palestine who finished fourth in Group B does not count because the number of teams in each group is not the same. There are groups of five teams, four teams and three teams.
With the number of teams that are not uniform, matches against teams that are outside the top three positions do not count.
Another team that also received a similar fate is the United Arab Emirates. Just like Indonesia, the UAE can win with a score of 9-0 over Guam in the opening match of Group B.
The other two teams that won big wins but failed to qualify for the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup came from Group D. In this group, Saudi Arabia and India made it to the finals.
While Kuwait can only occupy the third position by collecting six points. Whereas in the first match Kuwait got positive capital because it won 6-0 over the Maldives which was in the caretaker position.
The big score over the Maldives was also achieved by representatives of Southeast Asia, Myanmar. Htoo Wai Yan and friends won 7-0 over the Maldives but were only able to rank fourth in this group.
