2,000 direct jobs were created in Odesur preparations – Economy

Around 2,000 direct jobs were generated during the preparations for the Odesur Asu 2022 Games, mainly due to investments in construction to fine-tune the different competition venues, according to a study carried out by MF Economy.

For the preparation ofOdesur ASU2022 games Some 2,000 direct jobs were created in different areas and one of the most important generators of jobs was in the construction sector, since significant investments were made in infrastructure and improvements, as can be seen in a report by MF Economy. The government investment for these Games was around US$80 million, and a return of approximately US$262.9 million is expected in different segments of the national economy.

Main investments

Among the most important investments, those made in the National Sports Secretariat (SND) stand out, such as the gym complex; table tennis; multipurpose pavilion; Street lighting; electrical and sanitary retrofitting of the property; readjustment of all the pavilions to provide them with air conditioning; maintenance of the SND ARENA; and maintenance of the tennis grounds. In the National Aquatic Center (CAN) the water filtering and heating system was modified; the jumping pool was modified to make it according to current demands; general maintenance of the property; and the locker rooms were refurbished. Two new geotextile tracks were built at the Paraguayan Equestrian Club; the lighting of all the tracks was modified to led; and general maintenance was carried out on the property.

Regarding the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), the Velodrome was built with its changing rooms and bathrooms; skating rink with its changing rooms and bathrooms; two hockey fields with their changing rooms and bathrooms; three soccer fields with their changing rooms and bathrooms; cycling track for the BMX modality; bochódromo with its changing rooms and bathrooms; archery with its changing rooms and bathrooms; skate park; electrical and sanitary retrofitting of the property; construction of a new effluent treatment plant; enlargement of the bleachers and the lighting for athletics; improvements in beach volleyball; construction of roads to access the different sports venues; general maintenance of the halls of the Olympic Training Center and the hotel; maintenance of the sports center of the COP, with construction of new grandstands; and general maintenance of the property including the asphalt layer, among other investments.

Hospitality and transportation

On the other hand, the Odesur Games will have an important injection into sectors that were hit hard during the pandemic, such as the service sector, thus generating jobs in hotels, transportation, signage, and micro-entrepreneurs in general.

In Hospitality, an injection of US$ 6.8 million is estimated, only in accommodation and food for delegations. Regarding transportation of delegations, the estimated investment is US$ 7 million.
