WTA Tour: Maria and Niemeier master first-round tasks

Tatjana Maria won her first round match at the WTA tennis tournament in Seoul. The Wimbledon semi-finalist defeated Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 7: 6 (7: 5), 7: 6 (7: 5) after 2:19 hours of play.

Bouchard was even in the final at Wimbledon in 2014. The 35-year-old Maria now meets Kimberly Birrell from Australia in the round of 16 in South Korea’s capital.

US Open eighteen finalist Jule Niemeier also successfully mastered her first round task at the tournament in Budapest. The 23-year-old defeated the Pole Magdalena Frech 6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 3 and reached the round of 16. Tamara Korpatsch is also in the top 16 of the $115,000 clay court tournament, where she meets Danka Kovinic of Montenegro on Wednesday.
