The group draw for the World Baseball Classic was held in July and left the table set to see a death match in one of the keys, in which a team with tradition and several MLB stars will be left out.
The “Group of Death” in the fifth edition of the tournament, which will be played in March 2023, will be based in the city of Miami and has among its members a Classic champion team, one that has been a finalist twice and one who was a semifinalist.

It is Group D, which includes the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Israel and a team that will come out of the qualifier.
It is expected to see a lot of quality in these meetings. Talented players and some of the Major League elite will be in action at several of those teams.
Venezuela will take stars like José Altuve, Ronald Acuña Jr., Salvador Pérez and Luis Arráez and Puerto Rico Carlos Correa, Javier Báez and Edwin Díaz, among others.
But the favorite will undoubtedly be the Dominican Republic. Not only do they have top-level sluggers: Manny Machado, Juan Soto, Rafael Devers, José Ramírez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. They will also have star pitchers like Sandy Alcántara, the favorite to win the Cy Young of the National League.
