What awaits the Latvian national team after winning the UEFA Nations League group?

Kazakevičs noted at the post-match press conference that although the desired result was not achieved in the match against Andorra, the Latvian national team deservedly won the group.

“I am happy with the overall result in the six matches of the tournament. I believe that we deservedly won the whole tournament and were the best team. Yes, the match with Andorra was not our best, but neither I nor the boys have anything to be ashamed of. We have to draw conclusions and take from this the best in the game,” said the coach.

After six rounds of the Nations League, the national teams of Latvia and Moldova accumulated the same number of points (13), but thanks to the better difference between the goals scored and the goals conceded, the unit led by Kazakevičs took the first place in the group and won promotion to the C League. However, the Latvian national team will have something to do before the next Nations League draw.

The Latvian national team will play its next matches in November this year, when it will play against Estonia in the semi-finals of the Baltic Cup. The game will take place on November 16 at the Daugava Stadium in Riga. In the second semi-final on the same day, the Lithuanian national team will host Iceland, which will participate in the tournament for the first time. The final and the match for third place will take place on November 19.

Even before that, the Latvian national team is waiting for the draw of the 2024 European Championship (EC) qualification tournament, which will take place on October 9 in Frankfurt. In the draw, 54 national teams will be divided into qualification groups, where they will fight for the right to participate in the final tournament in Germany.

Who would the Latvian national team like to play with?

“I want to play against any strong team. I don’t have any favorites at the moment. I want to play with a top-level team and see what level we are against these teams,” Dubra said.

Jānis Ikaunieks spoke more specifically. He wants the Latvian national team to have England, Spain or Italy in the group. And which teams would you like to see for Latvia in the “Euro 2024” qualification tournament?
