VfL Bochum: Fabian appeals to VfL fans before the Cologne game

In the run-up to the NRW duel between VfL Bochum and 1. FC Köln, VfL sporting director Patrick Fabian is hoping for continued unconditional support from the Bochum supporters.

On Sunday (5:30 p.m., im RevierSport live ticker) stands for the VfL Bochum the groundbreaking game against 1. FC Cologne on. Can the first points in the Soccer Bundesliga be retracted or will Bochum remain at the bottom of the table? Despite all the unrest about the dismissal of the coach in the run-up, sports director Patrick Fabian appeals to focus on the sport – also on the part of the VfL appendix.

“The team, the coaching team, we all need the support of the fans to win the game against 1. FC Köln on Sunday,” Fabian hopes for a similar mood as in the previous VfL home games in the Ruhrstadion Has. This is the only way to achieve the longed-for trend reversal and really start the mission of staying up.

“I think the lads will do everything to make it clear from the first minute that there will be a close alliance,” said the 34-year-old at the press conference on Friday. “We want to keep the three points here through the ‘VfL Bochum’ community. Anything else would not be productive.” In this context, Fabian also tried to convey that it is not helpful to hold on to the past for too long.

Allegations were hard stuff

“Of course we could have positioned ourselves more clearly in one or the other place, but that’s the past now,” the head of sport, who has been in office for almost three weeks, hopes to be able to look together at the future of VfL after emotional days . However, Fabian wanted to clarify one thing that is important to him personally.

“I’ve been in this club for 23 years now and everyone here can be sure of one thing: I will certainly not act against the interests of the club and I have never acted,” allegations in this direction would not have left Fabian cold and also irritated him. “Everything else can be talked about, but I can’t let that sit on me.”

The sports director wanted to leave it at that and focus only on the NRW duel against Cologne. “The lads trained very well, were sharp and that’s what it takes: Good training performance is the basis for a good game at the weekend.”
