US Open > Ruud, beaten by Alcaraz: “At Roland-Garros, I found it hard to believe that I could beat Nadal. This time, it was not easy but I believed in it more. If I replay a final, let’s hope I don’t have to face a Spaniard”

Beaten in four sets by Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, Casper Ruud suffered his second defeat in the Grand Slam final in the space of three months after that against Rafael Nadal at Roland‐Garros. The Norwegian, only 23 years old, is confident for the future.

“I think when you get to that kind of level, a Grand Slam final, there will always be a great player on the other side of the net. At Roland‐Garros, I found it hard to believe that I could beat Rafa. Today, it was not easy but I believed in it more. I think those two tournaments reinforced my belief that I could win a Grand Slam. I hope these two experiences can help me. And also hope that, if I replay a final, I won’t have to face a Spaniard (smile)”dropped the new world number 2 at a press conference.
