U-13 teams advance in Panam Table Tennis championship

SANTO DOMINGO. The selected A of the male and female U-13 category of the Dominican Republic passed the preliminary round for teams of the Pan American Table Tennis U-11 and U-13 that is played in the Pavilion of that sport of the Parque del Este.

The women’s team, made up of Dafne Sosa, Yesmeily Guerrero and Edwanny de la Cruz, advanced to the quarterfinals in U-13, while the men’s team (Dariel del Rosario and Alexander Tejada) was placed in the round of the 16 best by winning their two games this Tuesday by 3-1 against Chile and 3-0 against Peru B.

The United States, in the men’s U-13, was also placed in the phase of the key of 16 by beating Mexico 3-0 and Peru B 3-0, while Colombia did the same by beating Canada 3-0 and 3-0 to Guatemala.

Brazil swept Venezuela B 3-0 and Canada B 3-0, while Peru B defeated Honduras 3-2, while Venezuela A beat Canada A 3-2.

The Pan American Championship, which will continue this Wednesday with the semifinal and final team competitions, has the support of the Ministry of Sports, Claro, Creso, Banreservas, Raise, ITTF, OMSA, Super Mercado Central and the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD).

The contest is dedicated to the President of the Republic, Mr. Luis Abinader, and at the opening ceremony the medal of merit will be awarded to engineer Magín Díaz, former national team and promoter of national table tennis.

The individual champions in both branches in the U-11 category will obtain the right to participate in the “Hopes” camp (of future stars), while the winners in U-13 will receive training scholarships in Specialized Centers.

The tournament is held in coordination with ITTF Americas with the participation of more than 225 athletes from 17 countries of the continent.

The contest, which will take place until Saturday the 24th of this month, also includes doubles and singles competitions, which will begin this afternoon.
