Tuchel’s personal Brexit: After Chelsea-Aus, the next expulsion threatens

Brexit law is merciless
Tuchel receives the next expulsion after Chelsea-Aus

First the job is gone, now he also has to leave his adopted country: Thomas Tuchel also loses his residence permit for Great Britain after the end of his coaching job at Chelsea. Labor law after Brexit is to blame.

After his dismissal from Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel is apparently threatened with further trouble: the football coach could be expelled from England. The Telegraph reports.

Because Tuchel was sacked in early September, the day after the 1-0 defeat by Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, he could now lose his residence permit in Great Britain. Because despite being kicked out of the London club, he continues to live in the British capital. Tuchel only took office on the island after Brexit, i.e. Great Britain’s exit from the EU, had already come into force. Due to the new post-Brexit labor law, non-EU nationals can stay in the UK for a maximum of 90 days after being made redundant.

Employers must submit a special application for their non-EU employees to give them permanent access to the country. This special permit also expires after the end of employment.

The problem is known in the Tuchel camp. “We will abide by the rules of the United Kingdom and adapt all future plans accordingly. No final decisions have been made yet,” quoted the “Telegraph” as saying a representative of the trainer, whose contract with Chelsea was dated until 2024.

Tuchel may have to move soon anyway due to a new job. There are already hot rumors about his future trainer. Because of FC Bayern’s weak start to the season, the ex-BVB coach is being traded as a possible successor to Julian Nagelsmann. The upcoming games against Bayer Leverkusen and BVB are said to be “games of fate” for Nagelsmann.

So maybe Tuchel will soon be able to pitch his tents in Germany again. Incidentally, Chelsea has no such problems with his successor: Graham Potter is British.
