“As a result of an untimely notification of the loan transfer from Sarpreet Singh to SSV Jahn to the DFL, no right to play for the first half of the 2022/23 season could be granted to date,” said the second division club on Tuesday.

“We are very unhappy about the processes and circumstances that led to this situation. In a personal dialogue with Sarpreet Singh, we were able to explain the facts and, in particular, to express our regret,” said CEO Hans Rothammer.

The situation is particularly bitter for both players and coaches. “Of course, that was also a heavy blow for us, which we first had to cope with together with Sarpreet. But we are now looking ahead and will make the best of the situation in close cooperation with Sarpreet,” said coach Mersad Selimbegovic.

The club does not have to fear a penalty, as Singh has not yet played due to a pubic bone injury.

Only in the winter transfer window there is a right to play

The 23-year-old now has to wait until winter before he can get the match practice he’s hoping for. Only in the winter transfer window and the associated registration period can Regensburg notify the DFL of the transfer in order to be eligible to play.

Singh was loaned to den Jahn last season but returned to Bayern Munich in the summer. During the summer break, the New Zealand international then negotiated with newly promoted Werder Bremen, and the transfer seemed to be on its last legs. The Bundesliga club refrained again because of the pubic inflammation. So Regensburg attacked again. Now both sides need patience.
