Prisca Awiti and Paulina Martínez won gold medals in the contest that took place in Lima; will close continental tour in Colombia, at the end of September
National judo team on the podium of the Lima 2022 Pan American Open
Mexico City. – With the harvest of nine medals: two gold, one silver and six bronze, the senior judo team said goodbye to the Pan American Open of the discipline, which was held in Lima, Peru, the second event of the delegation’s continental tour and which is part of the qualification process for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Sports Center 3 of the National Sports Village (VIDENA) was the stage that, for two days, saw 122 athletes from 15 countries compete in seven weight divisions in the women’s and men’s branches.
The Olympic in Tokyo 2020, Prisca Awiti Alcaraz he won the gold medal in the -63 kilograms, which meant his second golden metal on the Pan-American tour, in the Dominican Republic; while Paulina Lizbeth Martínez Claro did the same in the -52 kilograms.
In the +100 kilograms, Sergio del Sol Peñuñuri won the silver medal; meanwhile, the third places were through Paulina Garnica Nochebuena, in the -57 kilos; Arath Juárez Silva, in the -60 kilos; Ulises Méndez Cobos, in -66 kilos; Gilberto Cardoso Martínez, in -73 kilos; Samuel Ayala Rodríguez, in the -81 kilos and Ángel Alejandro García Torres, in the -90 kilos.
With this result, Mexico finished the competition in fourth place in the medal table, behind Peru, which took first place. Colombia was second and Brazil finished in third place.
The next and last stop for national judokas on this continental tour will be the third date of the Pan American Open in Bogotá, Colombia, on September 24 and 25.
