There are several weeks left before the start of the 2022-23 NBA season and the Los Angeles Lakers do not seem to have closed their participation in the market, even with the intention of making a big change that could place them as contenders for the championship.
One of the players rumored to be tradeable is Anthony Davis, who over the past two years has had multiple physical problems and ended up missing half of the possible games. Given his supposed availability, one of the teams that could be interested is the New York Knicks.
New Yorkers would put Julius Randle, Derrick Rose and two future first-round picks in the NBA draft on the table, keeping Davis’ three-year remaining contract with the Lakers in return.
This would be the final step in the project of the Knicks, a team that has accumulated young talent and draft selections thinking of some time making the jump to contenders for the championship. Pairing Davis with RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson seems like a good bet for that goal, especially if the power forward manages to stay healthy.
For the Lakers, the benefit is clear, since they will not only come out of a huge contract like Davis’s, but they will acquire a much more regular player like Julius Randle and who comes from two solid seasons, as well as a point guard who can occupy the sixth man role as Derrick Rose.
