The Tamed Lions | GIS Strasbourg

After a successful entry against Antwerp and a great victory, the SIGmen continued with the London Lions club for this 2th day of the MinciDélice Cup. Defeated 105 to 62 the day before by JL Bourg, the Londoners failed to cope with the seriousness and the impact of a high-level Cavalière/Mitchell duo which allowed SIG Strasbourg to win (86 -68) a 2th times in two days.

The match started off with a bang and, as we know, that’s typically what our SIGmen like. Jumping at the throat of the Londoners, they unfolded their game and, without waiting, Frank Kuhn’s team put their paw on this match: 12-3, 3 ‘. The Lions coach took a mandatory time-out and, after it, these players were much better. Former NBAers Kosta Koufos and Sam Dekker spent the second and our team had literally stayed in the pits after this mini break. The awakening of the adversary was without contest and the slap undergoes a spicy hair: 0-12! At 12-15 after 6’30 of play, the Strasbourg staff in turn called a time-out. The Lions offered a completely different face. Dr. Lansdowne’s entry put everyone’s minds a little in place, but the damage was done. It was indeed an English team in diesel mode which was in the lead with a 6pt lead over a SIG Strasbourg which had stopped dead in its tracks after a great start. Nice you 1is quarter: 19-25 (evaluation: 20-26).

Had the English gained confidence? No need to wait to find out, the SIGmen returned to the court with increased aggressiveness. As the front horse of the SIG Strasbourg mister Cavalière was in all the shots. Scoring, rebounds, interception, Leo was one of the main architects of a nice 14-3 which again gave our team control of the match: 33-28, 14’30. The Lions found some oxygen with Josh Sharma, but even when he and his team regained the lead (35-37, 16′), the Alsatians did not panic. Without hurry and with serenity, Matt Mitchell and others provoked the Londoners by being very aggressive. Leo and Matt’s 13pts at the break weighed heavily in the balance… Not to mention the 12-0 that the two friends planted in the nose and beard of Zubcic & Co which gave us a 10pt lead, which the players were going to keep up to the MI-TEMPS : 49-39 (eval : 54-39).

Watch out for the return of the locker room! Once again the watchword was clear, it was not necessary to lend the flank at the start of this 3th quarter … Only problem, it was the Lions who showed the best face. Zubic, Dekker and Queeley were incisive and in 4’30 they scored a 2-9 which allowed their team to blow in the neck of the SIGmen: 51-48, 24’30. But do not panic. One after the other, Dre and Matt extinguished the spark which could have caused a fire to start in the Strasbourg game. The Lions believed in it, surely, but the 11-0 they took right in the buffet put things in their place: 62-48, 27 ‘. Our opponents were knocked out and the end of the period did not allow them to regain their senses because SIG Strasbourg ended up confirming their lead at the end.into you 3th quarter: 67-55 (evaluation: 77-57).

Our team was going to control in the last act. Regardless of Best’s shots on the London side, Dr. Lansdowne led by example and planted two banderillas at 3pts before Bodian Massa took over. Thus, 3’50 from the end the debates were already definitively closed when the scoreboard indicated 80-64. A serious game from our team. Of course everything was not perfect and London was able to take advantage of the little air holes of the SIGmen, but we will retain the team’s ability to react without ever panicking. Time passed and the team of coaches Kuhn and Leroy did not tremble. Matt Mitchell, MVP of this meeting with 24pts, 8rbs, 5pds for 26 evaluation in 26′ has once again enjoyed. He was perfectly supported by a serious Leo Cavalière (15pts, 5rbs, 3pds) and the inevitable and indestructible captain DeAndre Lansdowne (13pts, 3rbs, 3pds, 3ints) to finally win against the London Lions on the FINAL SCORE of 74-71 (eval: 78-84).

We now have to wait for the results of the JL Bourg-Limoges CSP and Roanne-Anvers meetings in order to know the time and the opponent tomorrow for this Strasbourg team. To be continued…
