Infamous record in cheating: tennis coach is banned for life
09/23/2022, 08:21 am
Chilean tennis coach Sebastian Rivera has been banned for life for a record 64 match-fixing cases. This was announced by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after a hearing in London of the coach who had been suspended since last summer. Never before had unauthorized attempts to influence the result of such a large number of games been made by a single person.
- According to the verdict, Rivera is no longer allowed to work as a coach again, play himself or even attend tennis games as a spectator. In addition, the 36-year-old South American, who was 705th in the world rankings as a professional, has to pay a $250,000 fine.
- The ITIA saw several violations of Rivera’s anti-corruption rules as proven. The tennis teacher is said to have tried to “invent the outcome of an event” and also asked for money or other benefits in return for “negatively influencing a player’s best efforts”.
