In full break point for his rival, in the final set of the Metz ATP 250 final, Bublik surprised everyone with a blow that did not go as he wanted
The Italian Lorenzo Sonego won the Kazakh Aleksandr Bublik 7-6 6-2 last Sunday to win the ATP 250 in Metz and thus achieve his third professional title. However, Lorenzo did not take center stage in this match, and it is that his rival went viral with a point attempt at a very delicate moment in the final that many still do not understand.
Sonego had prevailed in the first set in the tie break, and in the second set, when he had a 3-1 lead and was one point away from an almost definitive 1-4, he was surprised by a strike from Bublik totally surreal. Going up to the net, the Kazakh decided to turn his racket and instead of taking it by the handle, do it by the frame and the strings with both hands and hit the ball with the ‘grip’. Logically, the idea was not the best and Sonego was able to return that cross blow due to lack of strength. The Italian responded with a sliced backhand that Bublik couldn’t get to. He thus took the 1-4 and put the match on track.
Many users on Twitter shared this point showing their surprise and incomprehension at what Bublik had tried to do as it was not an exhibition match but an ATP final.
