On the evening of the second round of the Badminton World Championships in Japan, France has only one representative left in the five tables. The pair Delphine Delrue – Thom Gicquel confirmed that she was indeed the safe bet of the Blues by qualifying for the third round, while their last compatriots therefore fell on Wednesday.
After Ronan Labar and Lucas Corvée, the second pair of men’s doubles still in contention was released in Tokyo. Despite an interesting resistance in the first round, Fabien Delrue and William Villeger could not cope with the number 2 seeds, the Japanese Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi (21-17, 21-12).
In women’s doubles, Anne Tran and Margot Lambert had opportunities against Thailand’s Supajirakul-Taerattanachai (n°14). Les Bleues hung the extension of the first set and led in the second, but they ended up losing after 56 minutes (22-20, 21-18).
