Debonis advanced to the round of 16 of the Polish Challenger in Szczecin

Argentine Federico Delbonis advanced to the round of 16 of the Szczecin Tennis Challenger, in Poland, by beating Frenchman Luca Van Assche 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2 in his debut.

The southpaw from Azuleño Federico Delbonis (118) surpassed the Frenchman Van Assche (296), who emerged from the previous classification of the tournament, after 1 hour and 48 minutes of confrontation.

In the round of 16, Delbonis will face the Italian Andrea Pellegrino (168), who previously beat the German Daniel Moelleker ((386), also emerged from the qualy, 7-6 (7-5) and 6 -two.

In the first hour, Thiago Agustín Tirante from La Plata was eliminated after losing in the opening round to Austrian Dennis Novak 7-6 (7-4) and 6-3.

Tirante, ranked 171st in the ATP world ranking, lost to Novak (136) after 1 hour and 47 minutes of play, and with his fall there are three Argentines who said goodbye to the contest in the initial round.

On Monday, Rosario Federico Coria (71) was eliminated after falling to Italian Raúl Brancaccio (204) 6-3 and 7-6 (7-5), and Buenos Aires Facundo Díaz Acosta (222) against Polish Daniel Michalski (256) for 5-7, 7-5 and 6-3.

The Polish Challenger in Szczecin takes place on clay surface courts and will award a total of 134,900 euros in prize money.

Four Argentine tennis players previously won this Polish Challenger, which has been held since 1996 when the title was in the hands of Venezuelan Jimy Szymanski.

Edgardo Massa, from Formosa, was crowned champion in 2004; Agustín Calleri from Cordoba did it in 2005; while the porteños Sergio Roitman and Guido Andreozzi celebrated in 2007 and 2018, respectively.
