the inaugural outdoor launch pad

The Loudunois Archers have a new outdoor shooting range, fitted out behind the Petit-Colas gymnasium. The culmination of an old project initiated by the former president.

The Archers of Loudunois inaugurated their new outdoor shooting range on Saturday September 24 in the presence (among others) of Corentin Barataud, president of the Vienne departmental committee for archery, Patrick Nourrisson, representing the New Aquitaine Region and the mayor , Jol Dazas.

It’s a dated project that took a long time to come to fruition, admits the mayor, but a successful project thanks to a fruitful partnership. The shooting range was set up and fixed at the back of the Petit-Colas gymnasium this summer by club volunteers. It is composed of sixteen fixed shooting goals, six double targets and four single targets.
The president, lisabeth Coric, recalled that this project had been initiated by former president rik Poisson (who died in 2018), to whom she paid tribute. He was also president of the departmental committee of Vienne and did a lot for the world of archery.

The club was created 42 years ago. rik Poisson took over the presidency in 2000 with 10 licensees and three training sites at the Petit-Colas and Jean Tursini gymnasiums and on an outside ground at Guesnes. His goal was to refocus all training on Loudun. First step in 2007: the club invests in mobile targets to adapt to as many people as possible and brings together all the training sessions indoors at Petit-Colas.
Guesnes Park is a pleasant space, but not accessible to people with disabilities and people without vehiclesexplains Elizabeth.
For 15 years, the club and the municipality changed to find a suitable site. Many places or facilities have been studied. rik Poisson is dcd in 2018 before reaching his goal.
Elisabeth Coric has not forgotten how much her predecessor had worked for the project. It also honored its vice-president Jean-Yves Delepine, who drew up the plans and monitored the work since May 2022, the date of the municipality’s agreement on the site.
The City has installed security protection for the most sensitive targets. From this season, all archers, confirmed and beginners, can take advantage of it and be supervised by their coaches outside. The Guesnes site remains open to the usual slots.
Inviting Jol Dazas to shoot the first arrow of the evening, the president warned the opposing competitors: Loudunais archers will arrive stronger and better prepared in France.
