The 106th edition of the pink race will start on 6 May. For the second time in history, after 2001, it will depart from this region

It will be a time trial of 18.4 km from Fossacesia Marina (almost entirely on the cycle path) to Ortona on the Trabocchi coast, in Abruzzo, the Great Start of the Giro d’Italia 2023, scheduled for May 6. This was announced by Mauro Vegni, director of the pink race that next year will touch the edition number 106. For the second time in history, after that of 2001, the Giro d’Italia will therefore start from the Abruzzo region. The second stage will be suitable for sprinters and will take the group from Teramo to San Salvo (7 May). The next day the caravan will greet Abruzzo with a stage that will start from Vasto heading south before returning to the territory on Friday 12 May with the seventh fraction that will end on the Gran Sasso d’Italia (Campo Imperatore).

Also present Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo), winner of three stages and of the Maglia Azzurra of the GPM at the Giro d’Italia 2019: “The Great Start of the Giro d’Italia is already an electrifying event. If it happens in my region, just a few steps from home , in the area where I grew up, the emotions and motivations are immediately very strong. The opening time trial on the Costa dei Trabocchi will offer a crazy scenario and a super fast trial. The second stage, the first in line, will offer an assist to those who He did not accumulate too much gap in the time trial and play for the Maglia Rosa. It is a start of the Giro marked by speed, in a scenic context and on interesting routes. It is not suitable for my characteristics as a climber, but I think it is obvious and right. I will look at the arrival of stage 7 in Campo Imperatore, which I know well “.
