The Different Types of Hockey

hockey

Hockey is a sport that began in ancient Greece and is played today in various parts of the world. Although its origins are unknown, the game is thought to have been played by the Romans, Greeks, and Aztecs. It was not until the mid-18th century in England that the modern version of the game was developed. This development is attributed to the rise of public schools. In 1876, the first Hockey Association was formed in the UK, drawing up the first set of official rules. It only lasted six years, but was revived by nine founding member clubs in 1886.

Ice hockey

Ice hockey is a contact sport where players use ice skates to move the puck. It is a fast-paced, physical game with plenty of thrills, spills, and punch-ups. It is played on ice rinks and is played in both men’s and women’s categories.

Field hockey

Field hockey is a team sport played on a field. A team usually has 10 or more players, with five players on the field and one goalkeeper. Unlike soccer, players in field hockey are not allowed to hit the ball; instead, they may only push it or deflect it. The game usually takes about 60 minutes, but it can take longer in some cases. The players use 3.3-foot long sticks to play the game. Their main tools are the flat side of the stick, the handle, or the head. The goalkeeper, however, can use his hands or feet to keep the ball in play.

Mini hockey

Mini hockey is a modified version of field hockey designed for primary school children. It is a fun game that is easy to learn and play.

Nok hockey

Nok hockey is a fast-action game played by two players. It requires skill, intensity and coordination, which makes it an excellent game for children and adults alike. It is a great choice for after school programs and clubs, and has been around for more than 75 years.

Floorball

Floorball is an indoor sport that is similar to hockey but is played without ice hockey sticks and pucks. It is played indoors on a 40m by 20m court, or a basketball court. The game consists of five players on each team and a goalie. All players use a stick, either left or right-handed. The goalie, however, does not use a stick and relies on his hands to catch the ball. The object of the game is to score more goals than the opponent’s team.

Mini hockey tournaments

Mini hockey tournaments are a great way to introduce young hockey players to the sport. Mini hockey is a modified version of field hockey that is played by children under the age of 14. Since it is a non-contact sport, it is suitable for young players of all ages. Mini hockey tournaments are usually separated by age groups, with teams for U6 players competing in the U8 age group, and so on. Mini hockey is also a mixed gender sport, with a minimum of two girls playing on each team.
