Tennis star Medvedev freaks out and mocks the audience

At the ATP tournament in Metz, tennis star Daniil Medvedev lost his composure, slammed his racquet on the ground and then mocked spectators with monkey gestures.

The current focus of the tennis world is on London for the Laver Cup. Roger Federer will play his last professional tennis game there. In doubles he competes with his longtime opponent, Rafael Nadal.

At the ATP tournament in Metz, France, which has been pushed into the background, number 4 in the world, Daniil Medvedev, who until recently was at the top of the world rankings, made another faux pas. After the native Russian missed a ball 0:2 behind the underdog Stan Wawrinka (37), he banged his bat on the ground. The viewers acknowledged this action with whistles and boos. But that’s when the favorite for this tournament got really hot – he started taunting the crowd with monkey business.

Not the first time

There were already arguments between him and the New York fans at the US Open 2019, and in the subsequent interview he was outraged by them – after all, he later apologized for it. His trainer should also have a particularly thick skin. At the Australian Open 2021, a dispute between him and his coach escalated so much that the Russian tennis star is said to have asked him to leave the coach’s box – all during the match. Also this summer at the tournament in Halle, he yells at his trainer, who then leaves the pits voluntarily.
