Tennis.-Rublev, Carreño, Bautista and Cerúndolo lead the list of entries in the Gijón Open – Publimetro México

The Russian Andrey Rublev, number nine in the world, and the local idol Pablo Carreño, the fourteenth in the ATP, lead the provisional list of entrants for the Gijón Open ATP 250, which will be held from October 8 to 16 at the Sports Palace of The Guide and will feature ten tennis players among the top 50 in the world and a ‘Grand Slam’ winner, Dominic Thiem.

This was announced by the organizers at the official presentation of the tournament at the headquarters of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) in Madrid, in an act with the president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco; the president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), Miguel Díaz; the mayor of Gijón, Ana González, and the tennis player Feliciano López.

Among the first favorites of the table will also be the Spanish Roberto Bautista and the Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo. Likewise, many of the emerging tennis players on the world circuit such as the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich, the Americans Tommy Paul and Sebastian Korda, or the Argentine Sebastián Báez.

Along with them, other contrasted as the Spanish Albert Ramos and Jaume Munar, the French Adrian Mannarino, Benjamin Bonzi and Arthur Rinderknech, the Portuguese Joao Sousa, the Argentine Pedro Cachín, the American Marcos Giron or the Belarusian Ilya Ivashka.

THIEM ENTERS WITH PROTECTED RANKING

There will also be other previously announced figures such as the Italian Fabio Fognini and the Austrian Dominic Thiem, 2020 US Open champion and triple Grand Slam finalist, who will attend with a protected ranking. Finally, the Belgian David Goffin, who had expressed his desire to play in Gijón, did not enter the ranking.

The list of participants will be completed with the three invitations that the organization will grant, the four classified from the preliminary phase, and the two ‘exempt’ places that are reserved for those registered in the preliminary phase who cannot compete because the week before they are playing the semifinals or final of a tournament.

FELICIANO LOPEZ, FIRST GUEST

The first of the invitations will be for the Spanish champion Feliciano López, as announced this Tuesday at the presentation of the tournament at the CSD.

The president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, has affirmed that tennis is in luck and that the tournament is born with the best expectations. “Sport is closely linked to a set of extremely important values ​​such as self-improvement, teamwork and solidarity. In this case, it will also promote the image of the city of Gijón and the potential it has in organizing events,” he commented.

The president of the RFET, Miguel Díaz, has highlighted that the Gijón Open is a “dream come true”. “We were missing a tournament like all the important national federations have. This opportunity arose and we can say that we are going to have a spectacular squad,” celebrated the president.

The mayor of Gijón, Ana González, has pointed out that it is important for the city from a sporting point of view to have a tournament of this magnitude, but it is also important from an economic and tourist perspective to make it known. “This ATP 250 tournament is going to allow us to be seen in many countries around the world and since Gijón is a beautiful, attractive, friendly city, I am convinced that many people will come to the tournament and after the tournament,” she said.
