Roger Federer (41) lost to Hubert Hurkacz from Poland in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on July 7, 2021. Since then, the fans have been waiting for his comeback, since then the 20-time Grand Slam winner has been struggling with his knee that has been operated on three times!
Actually, the Swiss wanted to serve again at the Laver Cup in London (from September 23) alongside Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic.

As the Swiss “Tagesanzeiger” reports, water has formed in the injured knee again, Federer is in pain. His manager Tony Godsick explained in the Swiss Blick: “Roger did fitness and played tennis. He’s trying to prepare for the Laver Cup.”

A video from August 21 had given fans new hope. Federer showed up on Instagram, hit a few balls at the baseline in training and moved quite fluidly.
Now the renewed comeback shock
Federer has not only registered for the Laver Cup, he is also on the starting list for the ATP indoor tournament in Basel in mid-October. Federer had confirmed his participation in the “Swiss Indoors” early on. According to Blick, the tournament director there has so far assumed that Federer will play in front of the home fans.
If the long-awaited comeback doesn’t work out at the Laver Cup, there is still hope for Basel, for the “Swiss Indoors” or the long wait for Roger Federer will continue into the new year…
