Ten-headed KV Mechelen and OHL keep each other in balance after a very poor game

Despite a whole half with one man less, after the exclusion of Da Cruz, KV Mechelen was able to keep up with OH Leuven. The Dijlederby ended undecided and without goals. The team from Leuven has already been unbeaten for five games and remains fourth, Malinwa remains in ninth place.

It was a bit of a wait for finished opportunities Achter de Kazerne, but after ten minutes it started to get a bit more dangerous, thanks to Julien Ngoy. The KV attacker came in front of goal three times in a short time. At first he tried with a dribble, but got stuck. After that he was able to head, but he didn’t hit the ball quite well. Ngoy Mechelen then appeared to take the lead, but the flag was flagged for offside. Immediately in the following phase, Tamari scored on the other side, but that goal was also disallowed for offside. So still 0-0.

After the two disallowed goals, another underprivileged period followed in which there was little to experience. Storm tried to break the spell with a shot from just outside the box, but it went wide. Then Peyre headed to goal on a corner, but he aimed wide.

OH Leuven had not prepared anything for a long time. When Thorsteinsson finally brought a ball in front of the goal ten minutes before the break, goalkeeper Coucke was able to box away. The team from Leuven did get into the game, because a little later De Norre was able to dock without many guards around. He stepped over. Afterwards, Thorsteinsson was there again. The Icelander put two men in the wind, but then went wide.

Rightly red

Just before half-time, the game took an important turn. Da Cruz simply knocked down Maertens without a ball nearby and was more than justified in getting a red card. After ten minutes in the second half we had to conclude that OHL hadn’t done anything with the man-more situation, except for a blocked shot from Gonzalez. On the other side, Schoofs came even closer to the opening goal, but he decided on goalkeeper Cojocaru. Not much later, Maertens came up with a weak shot for the visitors, which Coucke could easily pick up. Tamari also tried from afar, but aimed two meters wide.

KV Mechelen also continued to have his chances now and then, despite the male less. On the hour, Walsh tried to finish a cross from Ngoy, but Cojocaru was still able to intervene. OHL could also have fallen with ten, because when Maertens stood on Bolingoli’s ankles, he got away with yellow.

Fifteen minutes before the end, only sixteen-year-old Frederic Soelle Soelle came in for the home team. His coach Danny Buijs could not help him for long, because he was banned after verbally attacking the referee. Even without his coach, however, KV Mechelen stood their ground. With a point they will be able to live with a man less confident after a whole half with Malinwa.
