Taufik Hidayat’s interview about the Kevin Sanjaya-Herry IP feud

Jakarta

Enmity Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo with Herry Iman Pierngadithe men’s doubles coach, opens the opportunity for one of the parties to leave Pelatnas PBSI.

Badminton legend Taufik Hidayat, who is also a former PBSI administrator, hopes that this will not happen. This was conveyed on the sidelines of giving his views regarding the conflict between athletes and coaches which later caught the public’s attention.

What are his views, here’s the interview detikSport with two other media when met in the South Jakarta area, Thursday (29/9/2022).

detikSport: What is your view regarding Kevin Sanjaya who spoke candidly about his coach, Herry IP?

Taufik Hidayat : That’s their problem. As yesterday I read (interview) Sigit Pamungkas for mentioning my name. That’s a different case. In a sense, myself, double both. Doubles are higher risk than singles. Once they do not get along, divorce right. If single alone, nothing else.

Now, it’s just a matter of how to coach because it’s not easy, you have to know how to train one by one. Oh, this character is like this, the handling must be like this. So a good coach is not only good on the field, but must know the character of the child. The handling is also different. The athlete must also know, must adapt as well. So it’s more about communication, I think the programs are almost the same.

detikSport : So holding back for years is not good?

Taufik Hidayat : Yes, should just talk. Maybe if you talk about my (experience) first, the name Pak Mulyo (Handoyo) was in the coaching field, other than friends, brothers, parents.

For example, tomorrow I will practice in the morning, but I don’t get enough sleep, and last night I went away, so let’s just talk. I have this problem, that’s if I do, if others don’t know. Sometimes people open up, sometimes they don’t. The cases are different. Well, this is just said too well.

Like I used to be, I’ve been to Singapore. Come back here (Indonesia) before the Olympics. There, Pak Mulyo just said, come back here again, then I asked Pak Mulyo to come back here too. Just returned to Indonesia, even though Pak Mulyo still has a contract in Singapore.

Finally, Pak Mulyo said to me like this, ‘Still want to practice? Want to commit to the program? Yes, we have lived together. You want to take the risk. Yes, it’s back to commitment.

Because it’s not easy. Athletes are like artists, coaches are the same. Neither easy nor difficult. So the coach does not only train in the field, but also has to know the character of his children from the many men’s doubles. Can’t be generalized either.

(Case) is also the same. It’s just a matter of communication, let alone the Olympics. If you still want to commit, you have to do it together because next year the points will be calculated from April. That’s a shame.

detikSport : Is it necessary for a player to ask a certain coach?

Taufik Hidayat: Depends on the case. But if, for example, you just entered, ask for this coach, yes. For example, if Kevin/Gideon ask for a coach, if it’s a commitment from start to finish, that’s fine. If something happens in the middle of the road, you have to be committed too.

Don’t let it break in the middle of the road. You have potential and achievements, you are damaged by nothing, especially if they are adults and know what to do.

There is a Binpres, the administrators, yes they sit together. What do you want? When meeting it must be honest too. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each. Because if you continue like this, the players will lose again. If the coach does not have players, tomorrow we can create more.

What did the player want? There is an age limit, how old is it? So there must be a solution. You can’t attack each other in the media like this. If you look at the coach, there are good things too, the players are good and dare to say things like this.

But the problem is big because of social media. It should be inside. We can’t vilify the players, we can’t vilify the coach either. Then Kevin said from the beginning, said from 2016. Why when you’re upstairs, you don’t talk? Now it’s a bit down, just talking.

So yes, sit down together, commit to each other, and let out feelings and relief from each other. OK, I’m the bad guy here. The point is the cooperation of the administrators, coaches, and players.
