Stars. Jalisco is the capital of basketball, assures the president

Guadalajara /

Three years after the return of professional basketball, Jalisco has become the epicenter of this sport in the country.

Without being arrogant, the president of the Jalisco Astros, Teo Zubía, expressed that the organization’s project, the response of the people and the national events have helped the state to regain its place in national basketball.

“I think that Astros de Jalisco right now is the epicenter of basketball in Mexico for several situations, the first having three teams is not easy at all, participating in two of the best leagues in Mexico and adding the women’s team is extremely complicated, we are the only franchise who is in that position”, commented the manager.

“The championships helped a lot, it is already an Astros reality, but what makes me happier and calmer is the response of the people, the fans. I think that’s the great success of the Astros.”

Being a serious franchise, with competitive rosters and daring to participate in three different leagues, has made people from Guadalajara turn to see outside the countryadded to events such as Mexican National Team matches, Gustavo Ayón’s farewell as a professional and the 2022 LNBP All-Star Game.

“All the positive things that have happened have put us on a very good plane in the world of basketball, we see it with agents, with clubs in Europe, in America, the Astros is already a reality,” he said.

Jalisco begins to reap the success of being one of the best organizations in Mexico; She is runner-up in the 2021 National Professional Basketball League, champion of the 2022 Pacific Coast Basketball Circuit and first monarch of the 2022 Women’s LNBP.

Now their goal is to achieve the first championship of the main League in Mexico, for this they have formed a competitive squad and have a base of players who have already touched glory this year.

“Astros is here to be champion and we work to be champions, it is a very complicated League like all the ones we play, but we are working in the same way and the commitment with the organization, with the fans and with the state, which is to have a leading team”, expressed Zubía.

The next step in the growth of the Astros will be with the academies, as they aim to train Mexican players that feed the campus and basketball in the country.

“The objective, the mission, the vision, the design of the teams, my flag has always been to give the Mexican player an opportunity. To close the clamp as we must close it, we must have that pool of players who come from younger ages, ”he added.

Although the start of the season was shaky for the Astros, the second half points to the top spots, they are the best defense, they are in the top three offenses and in the standings.

“I see the team much better than at the beginning. There was a phenomenon, when we had the participation of Cibacopa, we thought that part of the team of players who came to participate in the National League were going to arrive with a lot of rhythm, but at first it was difficult for us. Now I see the team very well, happy”, concluded the manager.
