Roger Federer won’t play singles for his final Laver Cup tournament

Roger Federer will no longer play a singles match at the professional level. This is what the man with twenty Grand Slam titles confirmed on Tuesday evening during a tour of interviews given to the Swiss media, before taking part in his last official competition at the Laver Cup in London from Friday.

« I trained on Monday with Stefanos (Tsitsipas) and, honestly, I find myself hitting the ball very well. But no, I won’t play singles, it’s impossiblehe told the newspaper Le Temps. This is also why I gave up going to the Swiss Indoors in Basel. I think I’m going to play the double on Friday night. I think I manage to play at an acceptable level, but it’s been a long time since I played a real game, it’s going to come out hard and the pressure will be high. But if I don’t play, it won’t be a problem. The main thing is that I can thank the fans and that they can see me. I have always been accessible, present, and I want to be until the end. »

Federer also clarified that he saw himself ending his career well by sharing a double with his eternal rival, Rafael Nadal: Maybe I can play doubles with Rafa (Nadal), that would be an absolute dream. »
