Roger Federer (41) swung his tennis racket for the last time in his professional career. At the Laver Cup he lost in doubles alongside his longtime rival Rafael Nadal (36) the American duo Sock/Tiafoe 6:4, 6:7 and 9:11 in a match tiebreak.
Despite the defeat, a standing ovation at London’s o2 arena. Not only from the spectators, but also from his European teammates. In turn, Nadal, Djokovic (35) and Co hug the Swiss, who can’t hold back the tears afterwards.

There was not much missing for the perfect conclusion with a victory in the duel Europe against the world. Federer and Nadal grab the first set in 43 minutes. The second section lasts half an hour longer and goes to Sock/Tiafoe in a tiebreak.
The decision has to be made in the match tiebreak and Federer has the chance to win with a score of 9: 8 and his own serve. But his American-Canadian opponents didn’t do him this favor, unimpressed by scoring three points in a row and thus ending his exceptional career.
After the game, Frances Tiafoe (24) is full of praise: “Roger is a legend. He belongs in a row with the biggest sports stars like Michael Jordan or Tom Brady.”
The 20-time Grand Slam winner doesn’t take offense at his conquerors either. “It felt like a celebration and that was exactly what I wanted.” He then thanks his wife Mirka. “She could have told me to quit much sooner, but she has always supported me.”
Finally, Federer gets a personal serenade from pop singer Ellie Goulding with “Still Falling For Your”. Tears flow not only with Federer, but also with Nadal and certainly many other tennis fans.
