Report: NFLPA to Investigate Dolphins Over Tua Tagovailoa Conmoción

What does the protocol say?

The concussion protocol established by the league indicates that the player cannot return to the field if the team doctor and the external brain trauma specialist determines that there is neurological instability.

Players are neurologically evaluated using a cervical spine examination, speech evaluation, gait observation, and an examination of the pupil and eye movement. If any of them are positive, the player must be taken to the locker room.

The locker room evaluation is given based on a standardized concussion assessment tool (SCAT) and a complete neurological exam. Only if normal signs are found, the doctor will allow the player to return to the field of play.
