RD, women’s double bronze; USA Grand Champion Panam Table Tennis

SANTO DOMINGO. Dominicans Dafne Sosa and Eduanny de la Cruz won the bronze medal in U-13 women’s doubles at the U-11 Pan American Table Tennis Championship, dedicated to President Luis Abinader and which concluded on Saturday at the U-13 Pavilion in East Park.

The Dominican couple kept the bronze after falling in the semifinals by 0 set by 3 (7-11, 6-11 and 9-11) against the duet from the United States made up of Aria Shi and Abigail Yu, who won the gold, while that the silver went to the Americans Amina Batkhuyag and Genelia William.

With the medal in women’s doubles, the Dominican Republic finished with two bronze medals. The other was in the U-13 women’s team, made up of Dafne Sosa, Yesmeily Guerrero and Edwanny de la Cruz.

The Pan American Championship had the support of the Ministry of Sports, Claro, Creso, Banreservas, Raise, ITTF, OMSA, Super Mercado Central and the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD).

The delegation from the United States took the champion’s cup, while the delegation from Puerto Rico took second place, and Venezuela was awarded third place overall.

U-11 singles champions Irene Yeoh, from the United States, and Andy Maqueira, from Cuba, will represent America at the Hopes World Cup to be held this year at a venue to be defined.

In other results, in the men’s U-13 doubles, the gold went to Steven Moreno and Enrique Ríos, from Puerto Rico, while the silver went to the Americans Ryan Lin and Winston Wu. The Brazilians Vinicius Rech and Felipe De Melo Okano, as well as the Venezuelans Liudwing Perozo and Jonathan Vegas Vásquez shared the bronze.

In singles U-13 was champion Steven Moreno, from Puerto Rico, while the silver went to his compatriot Enrique Ríos. The bronze was shared by the Brazilian Felipe De Melo Okano and the Guatemalan Ian Morales.

In female, the Venezuelan Dakota Ferrer was crowned, who beat the American Aria Shi, who obtained the silver. The bronze went to Nathacha Mata Aponte, from Venezuela, and Genelia William, from the United States.
