Tedesco fired in Leipzig

That was one smack too many!

RB Leipzig parted ways with cup winners coach Domenico Tedesco (36) the day after the 4-1 home defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk. Tedesco had already had to swallow a 0: 4 embarrassment in Frankfurt last Saturday.

Club boss Oliver Minzlaff (47): “The decision to release Domenico Tedesco was very difficult for us. We played a very successful second half of the season with Domenico last season. We won our first major title with the DFB Cup and thus played the most successful season in our young club history.”

Now the dismissal that was to be expected. Here’s how the Tedesco ending went:

At 7.50 a.m Club boss Oliver Mintzlaff (47) drove up to the training ground and entered the office. Florian Scholz (41/Commercial Director Sport) is already waiting there. Squad planner Christopher Vivell (35) is also added at 8:07 a.m.

At 8:36 a.m the three bosses walk the approximately 200 meters to the performance center, which also houses the professionals’ cabin and Tedesco’s trainer’s cabin. Because the departure is only scheduled for 10.30 a.m., only a few players (including Poulsen, Gvardiol, Gulacsi) are there.

At 10.10 a.m. the club announces the Tedesco-Aus!

Tedesco ignored his imminent expulsion on Tuesday: “I don’t think about that at all. I’m disappointed after the game. Tomorrow the world will look a little different and we’re looking forward to Dortmund.” He won’t be on the bench again on Saturday against BVB (3:30 p.m.).

Tedesco has been head coach at Leipzig since December 9, 2021, replacing Jesse Marsch (now Leeds United). His biggest success with the cup win in 2022 is now followed by being thrown out.

Already as a Schalke coach, Tedesco fell mercilessly after a top season with participation in the Champions League. After a 0: 7 disgrace at Manchester City and then five bankruptcies in a row, work was over in March 2019. Via Spartak Moscow we went to Leipzig.

Dortmund’s ex-coach Marco Rose (45) is traded as Tedesco’s successor. Rose, who lives in a suburb of Leipzig, is currently without a contract and knows RB from his time as a Salzburg coach (2017-2019).
