Rafael Nadal could have retired after Roland-Garros

With Roger Federer retiring on Friday evening, Rafael Nadal told Marca newspaper that he could have ended his professional career earlier this year. The physical glitches made him doubt.

The Spanish tennis player explained that the retirement of his rival (and friend) Roger Federer had prompted him to reflect: “I don’t know, I’m not there yet. I was close to that moment this year, I’m not going to lie to you. At Roland Garros, I thought it might be my last tournament. »

In Paris, Rafael Nadal won his 14th Roland-Garros, a record. After this tournament, the Spaniard had several physical problems: “But from there, everything went very badly physically, I broke my abdomen twice, at Wimbledon and in New York. It was an accumulation of significant misfortunes, added to all these personal things. »

He then concluded by reassuring, “What I want now is to get back to normal, to get my personal life right, which is the top priority, and then organize my life in the right way. Have peace of mind in my personal and professional life”.
