Premier League: Thomas Tuchel collects severance pay after Chelsea exit – SOCCER

This dismissal came as a complete surprise!

After the defeat of Premier-League-Chelsea club at Dinamo Zagreb (0:1) in the Champions League have English coaches Thomas Tuchel (49) relieved of his duties. So that’s for the former Dortmund-Coach after a year and a half again with the Londoners.

Doubts are said to have arisen with the new Chelsea owner Todd Boehl (48) even before the bankruptcy in Zagreb. According to the English newspaper “Daily Mail”, cracks between the coach and the club’s management should have arisen on the club’s trip to the USA before the start of the season.

As a consolation for his dismissal at Chelsea, Tuchel will receive a hefty severance payment, writes the “Daily Mail”. The coach’s contract ran until 2024. With an annual salary of 15 million euros, Tuchel is said to be one of the best-paid coaches in the English league. And according to the report, he is now entitled to this amount as severance pay. In addition, there should be two million for his assistant coaches. In total, a severance payment of 17 million euros that Chelsea has to pay.

The “Blues” have already found a successor. Brighton coach Graham Potter (47) becomes the new Chelsea coach. This was announced by the London club on Thursday. Potter will be on the bench for the away game in Fulham (1.30pm) at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Tuchel took over Chelsea from Frank Lampard (44) in January 2021. Only a few months later he led the “Blues” to triumph in the Champions League. He was previously denied that at Paris Saint-Germain – although he was able to reach the final with the Parisians in 2020. There one was inferior to FC Bayern.

Tuchel will rightly “have a place in the history of Chelsea FC, having won the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup during his time here,” the club said in a statement after the end.

He continued: “With the new ownership group continuing their hard work 100 days after taking over the club to take the club forward, the new owners are confident that this is the right time for this move.”

Tuchel certainly sees things differently…
