Porzingis: The work invested in the summer will be seen on the court

“When I came to the team, I immediately felt very comfortable, probably because I spent the second half of the previous season with this team. I also appreciated the fact that the coach visited me in Latvia this summer, discussing important matters. We have definitely taken steps in the right direction.”

The Latvian basketball player promised that he would do everything necessary for the team to win.

“I can’t wait for the new season to live up to the expectations placed on me. None of us expects anything big, so I think we are in a good position to prove those who are wrong and those who trust us,” admitted the Liepaja resident.

After the season, Porzingis had conversations with the team’s head coach Wes Anseld Jr. and the rest of the coaching staff about what he should do in the summer to improve the basketball player and contribute to the success of the team.

“As soon as the season ended, we created a plan with our team, which included various nuances. I also had a great opportunity to play with the national team and get into the rhythm of the games. It was a long and interesting summer, and its results will be seen on the field. I feel great physically. I have worked a lot on my body and I expect a lot from myself. Staying injury-free will also be important. Those are just words, because everything will have to be proven on the pitch.”

The Latvian basketball player also talked about how important it will be to have synergy on the court with the other “Wizards” players, including Bradley Beal.

“My job is to make life easier for Bradley. At the same time, if Brad attracts a lot of attention on the field, then I have opportunities to free myself. It is important to understand how we can help each other and quickly find common chemistry,” said Porziņgis.

The “Wizards” will play a total of four test games, also meeting with the “Hornets” of Charlotte and the “Knicks” of Porzingis. The first game of the regular tournament is scheduled for October 19 as a guest against the Indiana Pacers.
