Poderi championship play-off from Nespoli Forlì against InoxTeam Saronno | Baseball Mania

For the Poderi dal Nespoli Forlì another run-up to the softball championship starts. The umpteenth, one could say, given that in the last quarter of a century the Romagna club has skipped the post-season appointment only twice, in 2012 and 2013. Forlì is reigning champion but the first contender he will have to face is also that more accredited: it is the Saronno, in what is the re-edition of the 2021 challenge. That was also the semifinal and, at the end of a challenge played more in the sports justice halls than on the diamond, Forlì won, who was able to access the final scudetto.

The desire for a rematch can only increase the strength of a team, that of Varese, which is already strong on its own, and which arrives at this appointment with first-rate references: a success in the Cup Winners’ Cup (the first trophy ever in the bulletin board Saronnese), and an open streak of eight victories in the championship thanks to which the Inox Team finished the second round unbeaten and overtook Bollate at the head of group “A”. It is a team without tangible weaknesses: the launch pad is reliable with Nicolini and the American Handley, while in attack it is the Venezuelan catcher Lozada Milagro who has the best numbers of a solid line up in which the blue Longhi stand out. Brown and Round.

On the contrary, the hallmark of Forlì are fatigue and patches. Of course, the team is strong, and if it manages to play relaxed (as in Castelfranco in the last round of the regular season) its qualities come out. But the season was long and hectic, and many pieces remained on the road, greatly changing Poderi dal Nespoli compared to the one that had been designed to defend the Scudetto and the Champions Cup; for one reason or another, the Romagna team has to do without Banchelli, Jameyson, Mambelli, Vigna, let’s go with Piancastelli even if we knew, and let’s go with Krystal Goodman’s miss. The last goodbye, however, was the hardest.

Holly Azevedo returned to the US this week. The American, a former UCLA, should have guaranteed a significant advantage in the game of the foreign pitcher; instead Poderi dal Nespoli was able to benefit from her talent only in the Champions Cup, on the day of August 15th. Hit in the left wrist by a serve, Azevedo had to leave the pitch and she hasn’t pitched since. The repeated tests carried out at Villa delle Orchidee excluded fractures, but the blow was really strong and the bruise on the wrist (involving the scaphoid) is one that leaves its mark; in these cases the pain does not give respite and the only cure is an adequate rest. Azevedo would not have had the material time to return to the pitch this season.

The semifinal match starts at 5 pm. The starting pitchers of Saronno are discounted, while the manager from Forlì, Juni Francisca, will be able to choose in which order Ilaria Cacciamani and Carlotta Onofri rotate.
