Plenty of medals for senior volantistas from Soria in Guadarrama

An excellent participation of the senior players from both the Soria Badminton Club and the AD89 provided the scoring test for the national ranking, held by the Madrilenian Badminton Federation in Guadarrama this weekend.

Just as the first part of the season prior to the summer months concluded, the four Sorians displaced to the Madrid town dominated with four wins, two runners-up and four bronze medals to complete a great collective performance.

As happened in the previous Madrid test in June, José Carlos Pérez came back from the competition with three gold medals in the three possible competitions. With an excellent moment of form, he won all his matches in two sets to win the singles, and the men’s and mixed doubles together with Madrid’s Fernando Herrero and Begoña Duque, respectively.

The fourth win came from Santiago Martínez’s racket in the men’s singles category. In a high-level draw, the player from Soriano had to overcome up to three three-set matches to beat German Thomas Freudenhammer in the final. Santiago would repeat the podium in the men’s double of category B together with his club mate Manuel Acero and obtain the bronze medal in the mixed double modality partnering with Beatriz Martín from Extremadura.

The performance of the players of the club from the capital would be completed by Manuel Acero who added to his men’s doubles silver, another bronze medal in this case in the individual box.

Cristina Puebla participated as the only representative of the Burgla player club, winning second place in the women’s double with Silvia Rueda, the Badminton Club Leganés volantista, and third place in the individual modality.

Oviedo

On the other hand, in Oviedo the best sub17 rackets were cited in the City of Oviedo Master with the presence of Daniela Corchón from Soriana. Settled in the national elite, the young woman passed the group stage to reach the round of the best eight where she was defeated by the Andalusian Angela Jiménez in a second set by 21-19, having had the possibility of forcing a third set.

This tournament confirms her as one of the national references in addition to obtaining the preparation for the Sub17 International to be held in Ibiza next weekend representing the Spanish National Team.
