Orlegi Seasickness in Atlas

“Practice doesn’t make you perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.” This philosophy is stamped on one of the walls of “The Burrow”, the current training center of Atlas. The club is in a full process of renewal at the hands of Orlegi. In April, the Aga Academy will be inaugurated in Guadalajara, which will be the point that brings together both the first team training center and that of its lower categories and offices. Currently, they are all in areas of the city of Jalisco. They are building their particular Mareo in Mexico, the same one in which they summarize their work culture in this sport in a single corridor. The director of the lower categories, by the way, is the Catalan Albert Espigares.

LA NUEVA ESPAÑA enters fully into the city of Guadalajara to feel the impact of Orlegi on Atlas. The Aga Academy is the symbol of his work. The added effect of having made the club a two-time champion. Winner 70 years later. In his new sports city there is much of what they intend to develop in Mareo. With nuances, but with similar ideas. Among them, the opportunity to make the footballer live a journey towards maximum performance in a few meters.

In the new Academy, footballers, leaving the locker room, will only be able to access the pitch by first passing through a performance study area (applied science department) and a gym. And back, the same. In each zone they should stop, work. It is the Orlegi stamp, its method, its particularity. All within a 6,000 square meter building that integrates a residence for 56 players. The one they intend to build in Mareo. The facility as a whole is 6.6 hectares and includes 6 football pitches, 4 of natural grass (two of them for the exclusive use of the first team) and 2 of artificial grass.

The Atlas quarry in Mexico is something that can be compared to the prestige of Mareo in Spain. Orlegi has opted for it not only with the Academy. Among his ten lower categories, he has an educational center to also academically train middle and high school students (the university entrance exam). And as a stadium, a historical setting, the Jalisco Stadium.

In Jalisco, Spain played against Brazil in 1986. It was the second World Cup hosted by Mexico. The first was in 1970. In that Spain there were several players with a red-and-white past. Maceda had to deal, among others, with Sócrates, the author of the winning goal (0-1). In that template, Eloy and Ablanedo. Also Julio Salinas, who was a starter. So he still hadn’t gone through Sporting. The Jalisco Stadium is only 25% owned by Atlas. The rest is divided between Chivas (32%, already has its own field although it also played there), University of Guadalajara and a family that owns it. This is the house of Atlas in Guadalajara, the same one that Orlegi has revived based on “processes” that could be summed up in a defining corridor.
