Rune Jarstein is taking legal action against his longtime club Hertha BSC. The 37-year-old was suspended in August after a dispute with goalkeeping coach Andreas Menger, and Hertha has since terminated the Norwegian.

That reports the Bild-Newspaper. The tabloid quotes the press spokesman for the labor courts in Berlin, Klaus Mittelstädt: “I can confirm that there are proceedings by Mr. Jarstein against the termination of his employment and that on November 1, 2022 at 12.45 p.m. there will be a conciliation hearing before the Berlin labor court – as things stand at the moment becomes.”

Jarstein was suspended in August after he allegedly misspoke in a dispute with goalkeeping coach Andreas Menger. Hertha managing director Fredi Bobic explained at the time: “You can also throw something at each other’s heads, but the tonality and the language were totally wrong. It was a bit more violent. From the club’s point of view there was no chance of regulating it somehow.”

Bobic confirms Jarstein’s lawsuit against Hertha

The old lady initially offered the goalkeeper a termination agreement including a severance payment, which Jarstein rejected. In the meantime, the Berliners have terminated the employment relationship as of November 30th.

When asked, Bobic confirmed both the submitted termination and Jarstein’s lawsuit. “We separated under labor law while observing a social grace period. Rune Jarstein is defending himself against this in court,” says the 50-year-old manager.

At the conciliation date on November 1st, the question is whether Jarstein and Hertha can agree on a comparison or on withdrawing the lawsuit. If this does not succeed, the two parties to the dispute will see each other again in the second instance before the Berlin-Brandenburg State Labor Court. Jarstein’s contract runs until 2023.
