Nothing changed! Deportivo Cali added against La Equidad its eighth defeat in the League

The ‘new’ history of Deportivo Cali, with Sergio ‘Checho’ Angulo on the bench as manager, remained the same. The Verdiblanco team fell 2-1 at home against La Equidad on date 14 and added its eighth defeat in the League.

The local team was disconnected and without depth, which did not know how to decipher an orderly and simple opponent in their game.

The insurance team took the lead with a goal from Éderson Moreno in the 14th minute of the game, in the first risky arrival at the goal of the youthful Miguel Sánchez.

Los Azucareros reacted just moments later and through Óscar Segura they achieved parity, after a shot that was analyzed by the VAR, but validated by the arbitration assistance system itself.

The tie, which was celebrated by Segura and the bench with euphoria, suggested that Cali would improve their offensive game and gain clarity in the plays, but, on the contrary, La Equidad took the lead.

Around minute 33, goalkeeper Sánchez had an unfortunate start and committed a foul inside the area that was sanctioned as a penalty, while the Verdiblanco goalkeeper was punished with yellow cardboard.

The penalty was executed by a former Cali player, Pablo Sabbag, in the 35th minute. The visiting striker completely deceived the goalkeeper and charged Panenka to put the accounts 2-1 in favor of his squad.

For the complementary part, ‘Checho’ Angulo made two changes from the beginning, taking Kevin Velasco and John Cabal off the field, to make way for Yony González and Carlos González. However, that option did not work for the technician.

Cali changed its tactics and began to try medium distance in search of a tie.

Segura tried it first, with a shot that went very close to the right post of La Equidad’s goal. And then Enrique Camargo did it, with a shot that goalkeeper Washington Ortega had to send to the corner charge. In minute 87, Yony González was sent off for protesting.

Cali’s painful campaign continues to extend and the team continues at the bottom of the table with just 8 points. The Sugarers will visit Junior at the Metropolitan Stadium in Barranquilla on Sunday. Another tough test for a team that doesn’t raise its head.
