NFL: Sam Darnold on Panthers injured list

The Carolina Panthers have placed quarterback Sam Darnold on the disabled list, which will be out four to six weeks. Darnold is inconvenienced by a sprained ankle.

He had left his team’s last preseason game in a cart after suffering an ankle shock when Bills tackle CJ Brewer crashed into him.

Darnold will be in his second season with the Panthers. Last year, he completed 243 passes for 2,527 yards, in addition to throwing nine touchdown passes. Darnold also added five rushing touchdowns.

Prior to joining the Panthers, Darnold spent three seasons with the New York Jets. In 50 NFL games, he has thrown 54 touchdown passes and has just over 10,600 passing yards.

Heavy loss for the Titans

Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Harold Landry III tore his anterior cruciate ligament during practice Wednesday.

Landry led the Titans with 12 quarterback sacks last season. Seven of Landry’s 12 sacks came on third down, which was third-best among all quarterback rushers. Landry also finished with 49 quarterback pressures, grounded the quarterback 22 times, forced the quarterback to rush 21 times and finished the season with 14 tackles for a loss.

Landry was one of the most important players for the Titans. He was on the field for 89.5% of the Titans’ defensive plays last season, according to Next Gen Stats.

In March, the Titans offered Landry a contract extension worth $87.5 million over five years, of which $52.5 million is guaranteed.
