NBA News – Luka Doncic on Mavs ambitions: Don’t need an All-Star by my side

Luka Doncic reached the Conference Finals with the Dallas Mavericks last year, but it could be more difficult this season. In an interview with ESPN Doncic said Dallas didn’t need another All-Star to repeat last season’s success. The goals were also set even higher.

As Doncic by Malika Andrews (ESPN) at NBA Today When asked if Dallas needed another All-Star to win a championship, Doncic said no, adding: “We have good players on our team. A lot of them are underestimated and should be talked about more.”

When asked, the Slovenian went into more detail. “First up is Dorian Finney-Smith. He’s one of the best defenders and when he’s open he shoots his shots. Spencer Dinwiddie will have a big role to play. Christian Wood is new to us too, but I think that he’s going to be very important to us.”

Doncic named reaching the finals as the goal for the upcoming season because it was the logical step after the Mavs were in the conference finals for the first time since 2011 last year. “I know it will be very, very difficult, but we have to believe in it,” said Doncic. “Everyone has to believe in it and if the whole team does it then we have a chance.”

The painful experience that Doncic had to make at the EuroBasket in Germany should also help. As the defending champions, the Slovenians surprisingly failed in the quarter-finals against Poland. “I’ve learned a lot in that time,” said the Mavs superstar. “I now know what it means to be a leader and to help others. I now know how to behave and what not to do.”
