The German national soccer team will be led by Thomas Müller as captain after goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s Corona failure in the Nations League game against Hungary in the evening in Leipzig.

At the start of the World Cup season, the 33-year-old will also form the offensive with his Munich teammates Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry and Leipzig’s Timo Werner.

In defensive midfield, national coach Hansi Flick relies on Joshua Kimmich and Ilkay Gündogan. The line of defense in front of goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen consists of Jonas Hofmann, Niklas Süle, Antonio Rüdiger and David Raum.

When asked whether the line-up against Hungary was close to his World Cup team, Flick replied on ZDF that you couldn’t say that. “We have enormous quality on the bench in various positions,” said the national coach.

The German team would knock Hungary off the top of the table in their group with a win on the penultimate matchday. The Magyars include all three professionals from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, Peter Gulacsi, Willi Orban and Dominik Szoboszlai, as well as András Schäfer from Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin.
