Last Saturday, on the occasion of World Waste Collection Day, eighty volunteers committed themselves to making the planet cleaner.
This action, initiated by the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS) of Loiret, took place in close collaboration with the Loire chapelloise kayak club, the Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle judo club, the association Runners from Chapelle, the association for the protection of the heritage of Micy in the Loire Valley and Mille-pattes from Chapelle.
This edition of the “World cleanup day France” brought together 80 convinced people aged 7 to 77, who met on the banks of the Loire on Saturday.
mind-boggling amounts
“The operation was somewhat successful,” rejoiced Adeline Gerardin, project manager at CDOS du Loiret. Our small army of volunteers removed 700 kilos of litter from the bed, the banks of the river and the surrounding area in just two hours. The Loire being particularly low, this made it possible to extract a large quantity of scrap metal and pieces of aluminum cable dating from the construction and extension of the motorway bridge, in addition to the usual glass bottles ( 34 kg) and plastic (3 kg), cans (3.5 kg), packaging, masks, wipes, tissues, lighters, wood, car parts, corrugated iron, cigarette butts (more than 2,000)…, up to a fire extinguisher and even a (deflated) crocodile dozing under the branches!
Mind-boggling numbers. The younger ones couldn’t believe it, not understanding why so many people pollute like this without scruple. “It’s up to them to become the ambassadors of a clean and united world. »
The sports and sports collective has already made an appointment for the third Saturday of September 2023 in order to continue the commitment to the protection of the environment. “The community provides us with rooms, land, subsidies… let’s show solidarity, let’s return the favor with this civic commitment which takes little time, which unites us and has a strong impact!” »
